NCDBS Danville 4th July Parade 2007

The "Stadelhofer" 4th of July Parade in Danville was another exciting event for the Northern California Dodge Brothers and Sisters Group. Gene and Vicki Stadelhofer opened their home once again to the group as "parade headquarters". Tom Barham once again ensured that the NCDBSG would have its place in the grand scheme of things as entrant 147 in the Parade. At 8:30 the group headed out and drove a few miles to the local high school, where the staging area for the parade was. This year the NCDBS Group was represented by 10 parading cars. Stadelhofer's 1918 Touring Car, Marinovich's 1923 Screenside, Travis Barham's 1924 Touring Car, Tom and Sharon Barham's 1926 4-door sedan, Gehrke's 1927 Roadster, Boone's 1933 4-door sedan, Jacobson's 1934 Coupe, Gong's 1935 coupe and a 4-door sedan and finally, Boone's 1935 KC Pickup. It was a very hot day in Danville and many of the cars heating a bit as the parade moved at a very slow snails pace through the parade route of 4 miles in the 100 plus degree heat. The only problem occurred when T. Gong's '35 coupe died and was unable to re-start one block from the end of the parade. Some enthusiastic parade patrons jumped into action and helped push the coupe into a safe haven. It appears that something in the ignition switch was jarred loose and was not making a complete circuit to enable the coil to fire. After a bit of work, Amil Gehrke and Donn Marinovich were able to get the car started and driven back to the Stadelhofers. When everyone returned from the parade, the group was greeted with the presence of a '26 GB panel truck and an '26 right hand drive roadster. Quite a surprise but a welcome sight. This also signaled the start of the camaraderie potluck BBQ hosted by Gene and Vicki Stadelhofer. Once everyone had a bite to eat a NCDBS Group semi-formal mini-meeting was held. Discussions were focused on the National Meet in Lethbridge, the Lake Tahoe Tallac Great Gatsby Festival, the Galt Old Car Festival and the Amador Valley tour. The NCDBS Group still has a full plate of events and encourages everyone and anyone to come join in the festivities - with or without an operable DB or GB vehicle. Pictures of the cars participating in the Danville Parade are shown below.

This is Gene and Vicki Stadelhofer's fine 1918 Touring car. Gene and Vicki (and family) lead off the NCDBS Group contingent every year during this 4th of July celebration parade in Danville, California. You can see Vicki speaking to Gene besides the car in the shade of the top.

Travis Barham's 1924 Touring car

This is Travis Barham's 1924 Touring car. This car has been operational for many years and although it is not completely restored, it is a strong runner. Due to logistics and location, Travis decided not to trailer down his 1920 Touring car from Davis, California for this parade.

Donn Marinovich and Sherrin Grout trailered this beautiful example of a 1923 DB Screenside from Sonora on the morning of the parade. That is Travis Barham in deep DB conversation with Donn beside the Screenside.

Tom and Sharon Barham have been coordinating the NCDBS Group participation in this Danville 4th of July Parade for many years. We were well represented with a good turn out of DB's for the parade. Especially impressive was this 1926 sedan that ran without complications in the 103 degree heat.

This is Amil Gehrke 1927 Roadster with the "Roof" valving. This car has an engine that sports the 16 valve 4 cylinder engine. There was a major amount of modification completed by Amil to make this system work as well as it does.

Barbara and Herman Boone drove this car from Farmington, California to this parade. It is a beautiful representation of the 1933 year of manufacture. The car is stock (aside from the new color) as if it just rolled off the assembly line.

This is Ray Jacobson's 1934 coupe that has been completely restored to a pristine beauty

This pickup owned by Barbara and Herman Boone was driven down from Farmington by their nephew. The car was restored a few years ago by Herman and has won many awards as an outstanding example of a 1935 Dodge Brothers vehicle

Tom and Elaine Gong drove this car in the parade after driving it from Richmond, California. This car is one of the few with twin wiper blades - most standard coupes of 1935 came with only one wiper.

This car was driven down the parade route by Roger and Lynne Gong. It was driven across from Richmond. This car also has had a history of overheating and that problem was solved by replacing the radiator core. It is in great mechanical shape today and ran well in that 100 degree plus weather during the parade.
